The Art of the Pregnant Hug

Figuring out how to get a decent hug while hugely pregnant has been a bit of a puzzle. Side hugs are the new cool thing. With a big 'ol baby in the front makes for practically zero contact or weird acrobatics. At least my belly doesn't hinder any kisses! :)

More Feet....

With all these comics on feet, you'd think I have a weird fetish or something. Really though, its just on my mind a lot because my feet swollen like this, hinder many of my favorite activities... like standing and walking.... and sitting. Seriously! Sewing and creating is no fun when your feet are balloons!

More Poor Feet

I was feeling like I had to do these every day, but Mike says I don't have to. I'm glad. I think it might have become a chore, but for now I'm having fun. Husbands are great like that.

Waddle Walks

Mike and I go on walks at night because its cool and quiet. It helps my swollen feet shrink back down a bit. Walking or exercise is also known to help bring on labor, which I've had a few times, but it hasn't gone anywhere.

Pregnancy Adventures

I feel like I've been pretty dang lucky during this pregnancy. I only felt nauseous the first few months and my back pain is pretty much gone since going to chiropractor on a regular basis. I like the shape of being pregnant. I makes me feel really womanly and feminine. Luckily, drinking water and walking helps my feet go back down to a relatively normal size.

Tearful Hugs

Mike is used to my tears. He is quite comfortable with my outbursts. I suppose folks don't really think about the possibility that I might be nervous or anxious about having a baby. I haven't really given birth to a baby before... its kind of a big deal. Mike is really good about reassuring me and cheering me on. That helps a lot.

Aquarium Visit

It was so nice to get out of the house, even though the aquarium was PRIIIIIICEY! $20 a pop! But! I learned a bunch and I wrote down some great fish names to look up to draw. I took some video of the fish too. Some of them are so big and bulky looking but they glide through the water so elegantly! Made me think of the baby floating around in me. I think I should go to the zoo next!

Good News

Not so good news as a new baby, but still encouraging. I'm still waffling between feeling like I'm failing to get this baby out and that I can totally triumphantly have this baby without drugs and surgery. So that was an encouraging visit.

Waffles and Cards

Technology is so nice. I really appreciate being able to talk to Mike via text, phone and video chat. Sometimes its just nice to see his face. Despite having plenty of projects to keep me busy, I'm essentially a social person. I like a lot of human interaction. I'm lucky to have sisters and friends I can call as well, to keep me company. Mike is my very best-est friend, though. He's such a good sport too. He very willingly participated in my craft night. I'm such a lucky gal.

Another day in January

Another journal comic. Simple, but I'm pleased with it. I hope I get better at storytelling as I do this. I'd like to do it everyday. I think I could, if I can keep it this concise most of the time. With a new baby on the way, I won't exactly have oodles of time to draw like I used to.

Holy Germs, Batman!

Who knew church could be such a dangerous place!? I'm 39 weeks pregnant (basically ready to pop at any moment) and I would really like to not to be fighting the flu or a cold while trying to push a baby out. So I was sent home early. Husbands can be protective that way.

Anyway...

My darling husband Mike has encouraged me to revive my journal comics. He loves them so much. He gets so excited about it, that his enthusiasm has rubbed off on me. I've not been posting or creating all that much art lately... as you may or may not have noticed. I've been struggling with finding purpose and direction. I hope I figure it out this year. If nothing else, I hope these comics help me keep my drawing and storytelling skills alive.

About Me

My photo
I am an illustrator, bookbinder, painter, doodler, list-maker, and wife. I love food. I am what can be categorized as a dabbler. I love trying new things, but I always come back around to art and illustration. I just can't help it.
