Book Sail

This doodle is supposed to be me (well maybe a little skinnier, but its artistic freedom right?) at the Farmer's Market this last weekend. It was soo windy, it nearly took our tent thingy! It just would not stop! The gale lasted pretty much the entire market. I gotta say though, I had very cute "wind-swept" hair after.

Oh and this is my first official digital painting, after my first lesson with Hollie. Thanks! I think you'll be seeing more of these after I have some more lessons.

Unsuspecting Birds

So it's darker and there are birds to help tell the story better. I'm happier with it, but not completely. I'd love a critique!

Sky Angler Fish

Little did the unsuspecting bird know that a Floating Angler Fish would find his next Meal in the Cloud Canyon.

Sami D. Sketch

This is my twin Sister! We don't look very similar... maybe cousins but not twins right? Well thats because we're Fraternal Twins not Identical. Anyway, she is sooo photogenic its not even fair, but that makes her a perfect Model for me!!!

Gorf~ Character for "Swamp Hunt"

This guy is a Gorf (frog spelled backwards) Ingenious I know. Anyway, this Gorf leaves behind a huge foot print, being that his body is blob on a foot, and a little boy thinks this foot print belongs to a huge creature.

Look that this adorable face!!

Book Cornucopia!!

So I went a little Book-Crazy with my Book Arts Class. But... I LOVE IT! I actually have made about 20-25 books so far and I sold 10 of them. These are some that I'm keeping for me. I love the longer format. These books are 8 1/4 by 3 1/2. .....

Raised Cord Bound... has an old feeling to it, no? I like the way the leather feels and it is a very strong structure.

I love robots!!! So cute!
This is a Case-Bound Structure. Very Classic!

This took for-eve-r to punch the holes through the leather, but I'm pretty happy with the result. It reminds me of the Pony Express and Cowboys. Oh and its called the Long Stitch.

Post-Card Portfolios. Not books... but totally awesome. They fit my blank thank you cards perfectly. Hey! What is Black and White and Red all over? ........ wait for it...... A newspaper!!!... and a sunburned zebra.

This is one of my very favorite structures. The Coptic. It opens really flat and this one is inspired by a grocery bag. I love lists, so this size and theme is perfect!!

Critique Notes... Lots to do!

Swamp Ranch

This is the line drawing I did for Huntsman's Creative Perspective Class. I pulled an all nighter for it and got sick, but it was totally worth it. I feel like its a solid drawing.

This is the Value Study... in Phototshop. Are you shocked? I am too. But this is me working outside my comfort zone so I can grow. Anyway.... I'm just starting to work on the color studies(they aren't ready to post yet), but Holly's been egging me on about posting this. I'm glad she did, or this might not be up. I love my Octocranes!!!

Official Website until my Official Website

My darling husband is a Computer Information Technology major, so he was going to build me a website from scratch, but he keeps on taking anywhere from 16 to 19 credits! Crazy busy, so to create an online portfolio he got me a wordpress blog and helped me put it together, because I'm not nearly as computer savy as him.
Anyway. I was applying for an internship, which I didn't get. Hey, its okay folks! I promise. I'm very happy with the awesome art classes I'm taking this summer. But here is a link to my portfolio website. Its all my finished/ really good stuff, some of which is on here, but a lot isn't. So check it out! http://casgrace.com/

Kisses!!! ~a sketch

So the women in my family are little round the middle and a little extra round the hips. As a little girl I thought this was the ideal body shape. It is certainly nice for latin dancin that for sure! Just for fun lil sketch I finished in photoshop. Very girly. My niece would love all the pink.

Octo-Crane in Color!

Amber is this easier to see? I know that line drawing made everybody a little crosseyed, so I hope this works better. I really had a blast doing this piece. It felt like a success and as a student those sometimes seem few and far between. Anywho, enjoy!

Fleeting~ Illustration Friday

I love lightning shows (please note the popcorn), but the lightning always is over too soon. The jagged flashes of light are so momentary, I try to capture them, but the image always fades. Fleeting...
So do I totally sound like a tortured wannabe writer? Muahahahahaha. My plan is working!

Poise ~ Illustration Friday

Poise means grace and elegance in bearing. So I did a beautiful woman...cliche I know, but I've really been working on my faces. My husband also got me a Bamboo wacom tablet and I love it so I started working this in color. (Its originally a pen drawing on paper)

This is really preliminary and I want to keep going. I'm still a bit new to photoshop, so it takes me super long, but I'm excited to turn a new page!
Ps I really want to do this "Poise" topic again, but as a feral teenage girl poised to attack/ drooling over a cute boy, because poise can mean suspended or ready to do something.

More Food Characters

It took me a while to finish them, but I'm glad I got around to it. They're pretty small, but since there was no dead line there wasn't the guilt or pressure... so nice. I think I like the bread smoochin the jam the best!

For Amber! an Environment

This is for you Amber! This is a two point exterior of my swamp rancher/hermit. This is only an early sketch thats about 3 by 5 in. I'm workin on a better larger version thats 14 by 22 inches. Its not done and I'm not ready to photograph it for my blog. I really want to paint it because I could do some awesome lighting all moon lit...

Subtract~ Illustration Friday

This is a bit morbid, but I must admit I love to eat fish and cook it. So "Subtract" had me a bit stumped...get it? stumped. Anyway, my friend Hannah helped me get the idea. Fish -Head= Dinner!

Never Mind

This is my character. I've decided. I like the long nose and he fulfills all the requirements: two arms and two legs, burly/large and potentially scary. This is Oliver.

Character Auditons

I still think these are a little generic. I'm not very crazy about any of them.

Losing Weight!

So... I'm working on getting healthier and I hope that in the process, I'll lose some lbs. My sweet husband is creating a web application where I log in what I eat and then it gives me a point total, and I'm only allowed so many points per day. Well.... that isn't particularly fun, so I did some illustrations to make it peppier to look at and to get me involved in the process. So far I only have three finished characters and three more partially done. I really love 'em and I hope you do to!

Windy ~ Illustration Friday

I painted my drawing with acrylic washes. The drawing is only about 6x4. I photographed it, but as usual it desaturated the painting, so I had to touch it up a bit in photoshop. I love working traditionally, getting my "hand dirty." Anyway... Enjoy!!

Windy Process ~ Illustration Friday

I've just learned about Illustration Friday.com from some friends. I really think its an awesome idea. This is for the last topic, the next is called "intricate." I started with a pen drawing on illustration board.

I took a quick picture of it (thus the blurriness) and then did some color comps. in photo shop.

Mike liked the orange and blue, and so do I, but it is a color combination I use often. So I wanted to try something new.I finally went with the green and brunette because I don't think brunette little girls are represented enough. It seems to be mostly little blond girls. Don't get me wrong I was a blond little girl myself. I just wasn't in the mood.

I like the purple and bluish/black hair. It reminds me of "Coraline."

Moving Woes

This is the sketch of a painting I did for my illustration class. The idea behind it is how much packing up and moving wears ya out! After your done, your all sweaty, and sore from picking up heavy boxes and your brain is tired from trying to remember everything and packing it into the moving van is like a 3d puzzle nightmare. I actually like my sketch better than the finished painting. Funny how that works out sometimes. ...

Study

This is from a figure drawing class from about a year ago. Its not super detailed, but I like the gesture of it. I wish my school could get models older than 20, but maybe I'll be really good at super heroes as a result?

Watermelonseeditis

My Grandpa told my mom and older sisters that if you ate watermelon seeds, It'd grow out your ears. I haven't finished painting it yet.

Swamp Creature

This is just the pen drawing. The process to get here was a little rough, but after doing some flamingo and swamp studies I got it together. I'm pretty darn happy with it.

About Me

My photo
I am an illustrator, bookbinder, painter, doodler, list-maker, and wife. I love food. I am what can be categorized as a dabbler. I love trying new things, but I always come back around to art and illustration. I just can't help it.
