Kill Two Birds with one Stone

Hear are some more theme cookie designs. I don't know if they'd even be possible to create, but it'd be a fun challenge don't you think? But while I made these designs for a job application, its good practice to try something new with a specific goal.

Another Poster

This poster was a bit of challenge. I was racking my brain as to how to illustrate getting to know one another and making friends. It was a verb I had a hard time visualizing. After knocking out some thumbnails, this is what happened. I love thumbnails. This job at church has been a bit of a challenge at first, but now I look forward to figuring out how I'm going to present the info in an engaging way. Its not a graphic design class, but it'll do.

There is a job opening at a cookie place, and I thought I'd take a crack and some fun designs.

Journal Entry

I've been perusing some sweet webcomics and I got inspired by one in particular. Its http://www.shazzbaa.com/. This illustrator journals her day through illustration. I thought I'd do the same in my physical book journal. With my new handy-dandy scanner, I thought I'd share a page with you.
This depicts our Thanksgiving adventures. This was our first Thanksgiving alone. It took a lot of planning and work, but lots of fun!

Some Slight Changes...

Just finishing this little doodle up. I'm pretty happy with it. Did I mention how awesome my scanner is? Cuz it is. I totally love my husband (who got it for me)!

Meanwhile...

"Ode to the Natural Egg 2"

So while I take your suggestions to work on the previous one, I thought I'd show you my first scanned/digital piece! Yay! Its a work in progress as well. I'd like add some light and darks, while keeping it a bit flat and graphic for fun. I'm really having a blast. Yay for new scanners and computers!!!

Couldn't Sleep?

When I have down time at work, I occasionally check out web comics. There's some really great stuff out there! Anyway. This one was inspired by one of them... the name of which escapes me right now. Anywho. Its a Work in Progress, but I felt I ought to show ya'll to prove I'm continuing to illustrate.

New Computer!

Sooooo...... I know I haven't updated in a while, but have lots of good reasons!!! The first is a new computer(Macbook Pro)! I haven't transfered all my files over yet and I'm currently installing the wacom tablet program. Lets see.. I made my first Thanksgiving dinner, stained our hard wood floor with my husband annnnd basically didn't get around to it... But! This Week is a new Dawn in the age of Digital Illustration by Cassie Grace. Hence forth, you will see more of me!! Until tomorrow! I bid you Adieu...

More Eggs

You may be wondering why her jeans are like footsie pajamas.... well. Its faster at the moment. I'll give her shoes eventually. I want to try a flat and graphic version and a more painterly version. I'll try to post one tomorrow!!

.....and I just noticed that it looks like she's holding a potato.... hmm. I'll fix that.

Muahahhahahhhahaaa

Oh Octopus, I do love thee!
Thy tentacles are so lovely,
as long as they don't strangle me......

Hat Shapes

So I've been thinking a lot about shapes and simplifying.Thus......

Anyway. I like top hats! I wish I had one and somewhere to wear it. OOOOoooo a hat party. Wouldn't that be fun?

March~Windy

For those of you not "in" on the project. Adam Taylor (illustrator extraordinaire) invited some of my college friends and I to illustrate a month and word for kids learning english in Honduras. Mine is "March and Windy" for cute little kids to color in. I'm pretty happy with it, especially since I did the whole thing in photoshop. No scanning in traditional drawing first!

Banner Ideas

Thank you, Hollie, Emily and Hannah. I've been envying your banners on your blogs. Plus you've all been inspiring me to think about a website as well as digitally illustrating. Once Mike and I complete refinishing our floor, I hope to do some more Oil Painting and traditional Illustrating as well.

Anyway. What do ya'll think of these concepts as a banner to greet my potential viewers? It's more concept than design, but all comments are welcome. I'd love to bounce around ideas! Thanks guys!

Much Better. No?

So I critiqued myself, since I didn't give anyone else much time to do it before I plowed ahead. I think the values are working better , but it still needs a lot of work. I feel like maybe I bit off more than I can chew. I plan to do a header for the top of my blog to greet you. I think I'll post some mock ups and get your opinions.

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

You asked for it....

So here is my critique: The values need a LOOOOOt of help. Its spotty and muddy. I want it desaturated, but sheesh a lot of work! I want the background to have some detail but mostly fade into the distance, so closer values or softer edges. More obvious lighting of a creepy moon. Okay. I could go on and on. I'll just fix it and show ya'll the finish. I'll take critique now or later. Its all good!
Ps. This is inspired by Illustration Friday's theme: "Spooky."

Dreads all Done!

It's still scratchy, but I'm still learning. I want to use other brushes and textures, but I'm a bit chicken. I'd love advice from you digital mavens. What textures and brushes do you recommend?? Thanks!

Some Digital Painting.

Sooo..... yeah. I'm trying to do people. Are you all completely shocked???? I am. I look at other peoples art all day. Some bad some good. I feel like I can hardly criticize when I'm not even trying myself! So here is an attempt at a person. I'd love color help. Critiques welcome!

Late Night Work

I did a doodle of squash in Relief Society Meeting (Class at church for just the ladies, for those of you who aren't Mormon). It came in handy for this Poster I threw together. It supposed to be just a reminder, and not particularly informative. Its not the best work of my career, but I'm happy enough with it at 1:30 am to call it good. Yay for deadlines!

Ps to my illustrator friends. I got a job at an art gallery and I'm still drawing. I'll post my traditional stuff.......eventually. I really need a scanner.....

The Poster Experiment Continues....

I'm assuming that most of the people who look at my blog are classmates, who know I graduated in illustration, not graphic design. So those of you with graphic design backgrounds, please be gentle (aka Emily and Trevor, who are freaking amazing). This is sooo not my forte, but I am enjoying the experiment anyway. Luckily for me, most people at church are easily impressed.

Tree Shapes

Its not a greeeeaaaat photo, but I wanted to show ya'll what I've been up to. I'm trying to play with design and shapes. Its a lot of fun! Who knew?

Temple Poster

So I've been outed at church. I've been called to create posters to inform and invite people to stuff. This is for Stake Temple Week. Nothing fancy. My budget is $5.oo thus the black and white. They panicked out when I suggested it might cost $15.oo or less in printing.

Doodling Practice..

I'm so inspired by my friends digital work, like Ray, Hollie, Hannah, Emily, Trevor, Audrey... The list goes on. Those who know me, know that I love traditional work, getting my hands in it. But I know that digital work is more marketable, so I'm practicing.

See Hollie!! I'm updating my blog!

Doctor Who in Progress

I thought I'd show ya'll what I've been up to on this project. I'm trying to paint digitally. Thank you Hollie for the lessons! I'd appreciate suggestions. I plan to warm up his face a bit. I've put in some background, but it's a surprise!!! I hope you enjoy it just the same.

Doctor Who

This is the new Doctor on "Doctor Who." Gosh, I love that show! I wasn't sure I'd like the new Doctor, because David Tennant was so great, but I think I like this new guy. I've never done fan art before. I plan on adding the Tardis, and maybe some monsters in the background or his companion.... So go easy on me. Its still in its initial stages.

I'm Posting Again!!!!

Soooo.... I think some of you may have given up on looking at my blog. I know Hollie and Hannah and Ray and...... a long list of friends have been getting after me about posting. So this is my renewed effort to begin posting on a more regular basis. (We'll see how long it lasts.) Enjoy~

Business Video "The Adventures of a Box Maker"

For our Business for the Professional Artist, we have been required to make a promotional video. My kind husband shot the photos and helped me put it together. Check it out!

Insects Project

I'd love some critique before I have to print these. Thanks!

Another Monster

This is a silk screen technique in photoshop. I'm not too crazy about it. But its a work in progress.

Monsters and Patterns

Monsters. Gotta love 'em. This is new technique from my Digital Illustration Class. We create our own patterns for our brushes. I chose cross hatching, because that is how I often draw. This was just fun. Thank you Dustin for the simple shapes ideas!

Adrift- Illustration Friday

Whale Sharks are amazingly gentle creatures. No teeth! Anyway. I wanted to do a whale adrift in the sky and this is what came out.

About Me

My photo
I am an illustrator, bookbinder, painter, doodler, list-maker, and wife. I love food. I am what can be categorized as a dabbler. I love trying new things, but I always come back around to art and illustration. I just can't help it.
